Meet the people behind Communitas

Dr Nilu Vajpeyi

Dr Nilu Vajpeyi (BSc, MBBS, MRCGP, DPD, CAP) incorporated Communitas Clinics after working as a GP for over 10 years.

Whilst transforming her current practice by almost doubling the list size in just 6 years, she identified the need for high quality intermediate services within the Croydon borough she was practising in.

Her keen interest in dermatology was the catalyst for bidding for the Communitas Clinic’s first dermatology contract. This Croydon contract, Communitas’ first, has been held and maintained since 2009. The successful delivery of this contract has led to the award of similar dermatology contracts in Havering, Barking and Dagenham, Greenwich, Bexley, Surrey Downs, Crawley and Horsham providing the intermediate care to a population of over 2 million.

Dr N Vajpeyi is a GPwSI in Dermatology and has been instrumental in the development of this service provider with her focus on excellent clinical governance. She has also completed a Certificate of Advanced Study from Imperial College in Allergy with Distinction.

Christian Lyons

Christian’s main focus is to continue to grow Communitas Clinics and improve the quality of dermatology, primary and aesthetic care delivered in the UK.

He sees this being delivered through innovative service developments and pathway redesign; a more multidisciplinary approach to the delivery of complex care and a stronger emphasis on prevention and lifestyle management.

His main focus over the past 10 years has been the improvement of standards in dermatology care provided in the community through his stewardship of Communitas Clinics. This ground breaking service provider has slashed waiting times to between 2 – 4 weeks for an appointment, whilst reducing the cost per dermatology episode; thus saving NHS CCGs up to 40% on the cost of their dermatology care. These operational achievements have been delivered whilst raising patient satisfaction levels to 95% and above.

After taking on this contract the Communitas and Brigstock Skin and Laser Clinics were established both specialising in skin care due to Dr Nilu’s specialist interest in dermatology. Communitas Clinics has grown over this time to become the UK’s leading provider of community-based dermatology service in the UK, providing the intermediate care for over two million people in and around the South East England.
